Biography
Arbitrator. Over the past 20 years, David Allgeyer has served as arbitrator in over 100 commercial and intellectual property disputes. David’s intellectual property-related arbitrations have resolved disputes concerning patents, trade secrets, copyrights and trademarks in the bio-manufacturing, petroleum, consumer product manufacturing, medical products, and other industries. His commercial arbitrations have resolved contract and warranty disputes in high tech, manufacturing, software, insurance and other industries. He has arbitrated matters venued in Minnesota, New York, California, Texas, Florida, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Illinois.
Mediator. David has served as mediator in cases involving intellectual property and commercial issues for nearly 20 years. He has mediated disputes in virtually all areas of civil law in court-annexed mediations and has served as a pro bono mediator for Minnesota courts.
Work history. After serving as law clerk to the United States District for the District of Minnesota, David joined the Minneapolis office of Lindquist and Vennum, where he spent 35 years litigating, arbitrating, and mediating intellectual property and commercial matters throughout the United States. He tried his first patent jury trial in 1989 and finished his last in 2015. In 2018, David formed Allgeyer Law & ADR, devoted to serving as an arbitrator and mediator.
Presenter and Author. David is a frequent lecturer and panelist on ADR and intellectual property matters. His ABA Book, Arbitrating Patent Cases, a Practical Guide is available at shopaba.org and Amazon.com.
Recognition. David was named by Best Lawyers in America as the 2016 and 2020 Minneapolis Arbitration Lawyer of the Year and Minneapolis Mediation Lawyer of the Year in 2018. He is a Fellow in the College of Commercial Arbitrators is currently included on the Silicon Valley Arbitration Mediation Center’s List of the World’s Leading Technology Neutrals.
Education. David is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School, where he served as an editor of the Minnesota Law Review.
