Harrie Samaras

Biography

Harrie Samaras founded the ADR Office of Harrie Samaras. She mediates and arbitrates complex commercial cases (U.S. and international) focusing on intellectual property disputes and contractual disputes involving business and technology issues.

Harrie is a Harvard trained mediator, certified by the International Mediation Institute, a Fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators, and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Harrie serves as a neutral on an ad hoc basis and for such widely known ADR organizations as: the American Arbitration Association and its international arm – ICDR, CPR International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution, the World Intellectual Property Organization, the U.S. Council for International Business (ICC), National Arbitration and Mediation, United States International Trade Commission, and U.S. District Court for the E.D. of Pennsylvania.

During her legal career Harrie has worked as an attorney in the corporate and private sectors, for the U.S. government as a staff attorney and law clerk (for Chief Judge Helen W. Nies) at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and as a Patent Examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in the biomedical arts. In private practice, Harrie represented clients at the trial and appellate levels in intellectual property cases. She served as Director of Intellectual Property Litigation for a Fortune 100 telecommunications company and as Vice President Intellectual Property, Legal, for a business unit of a multi-national pharmaceutical company. Serving as a Neutral and representing clients, Harrie has handled disputes involving a wide variety of technologies (including, mechanical, chemical and software) and industries including medical device, pharmaceutical and biotechnology.

Harrie has served in an advisory capacity for various ADR institutions including CPR, AAA and the ABA Dispute Resolution Section. She has served in various leadership roles for professional organizations including College of Commercial Arbitrators – member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee; ABA Dispute Resolution Section – Past Chair and Executive Committee member; and American Intellectual Property Law Association –member of the Board of Directors.
