Biography
Christoph Barth is a Partner at Linklaters in Germany, where he specialises in all aspects of antitrust laws, with a particular focus on global merger control, foreign direct investment (FDI) screening, and the EU Foreign Subsidies Regulation (FSR). He is a leading European practitioner on the interplay between US and non-US regulatory regimes, advising multinational clients on navigating the increasingly complex landscape of parallel merger control, FDI, and FSR proceedings – three regulatory frameworks that interact in ways that create new and compounding challenges for cross-border transactions in a post-globalisation world.
Christoph regularly represents clients before the European Commission, the German Federal Cartel Office, and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy, as well as before European and German courts. He has been involved in a range of landmark transactions across all three regimes, including notable cases in the digital economy space. His practice covers the full regulatory lifecycle, including the negotiation and implementation of mitigation and security agreements across multiple jurisdictions.
Christoph is Co-Editor of the FILinks blog on global foreign investment control and a board member of the German Association of Foreign Investment Control Lawyers. He is consistently recognised as a leading individual in both antitrust and foreign investment laws, and has been named one of ten “distinguished advisors” in the global Financier Worldwide ranking of “Foreign Investment Power Players” for 2024, 2025, and 2026. He holds degrees in law and economics from the University of Bonn, Germany.
