Flavia Romero
Flavia Romero has 20 years of experience across a range of financial disciplines, including treasury,corporate finance, corporate/business development, impact investing, mergers & acquisitions, capital markets, and credit analysis. Prior to joining Coinbase as Treasurer, Flavia led PayPal’s Credit Capital Strategy team, where she was part of Treasury and Credit Business United leadership at PayPal, responsible for setting and executing funding strategy for credit products
globally. Her previous role involved leading PayPal’s Corporate Finance team where she helped the company set its capital allocation framework, determine its optimal capital structure, and execute various capital market transactions to support target levels of liquidity.
Prior to joining PayPal, Flavia was part of eBay Inc.’s Corporate Development group, responsible for strategic investments, acquisitions, and divestitures. In that role she evaluated over 150 potential merger and acquisition opportunities and completed several investments and acquisitions for eBay totaling $2 billion in enterprise value. In her prior role at eBay, Flavia led Business Development at MicroPlace, an eBay subsidiary and start-up broker-dealer focused on opening the market for social impact-related investments to retail investors via an online marketplace. Her role and responsibilities included evaluating and executing strategic partnerships, examining product expansion opportunities across the platform, as well as serving as the Credit Committee Chair to ensure suitability of debt securities listed on the platform.
Prior to eBay, Flavia worked as an investment banking associate in the Emerging Markets Group at BroadSpan Capital, a boutique investment bank specializing in Latin America and the Caribbean. During her time at BroadSpan, she worked on several merger and acquisition deals
spanning several countries in the region, including Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, and the Dominican Republic. Flavia began her career at Merrill Lynch in New York, where she became an Assistant Vice President in the company’s Loan Execution and Management Group. Flavia then joined Merrill’s Debt Capital Markets Group where her team was responsible for investment banking relationships with clients across the Telecom, Media, Technology, and Healthcare industries, helping to originate and execute several debt transactions ranging in size from $300 million to $4 billion.
Flavia holds a B.B.A. in International Finance and Marketing from the University of Miami with additional study in Accounting and Computer Information Systems. She is fluent in English and Spanish. Outside work, she enjoys park picnics with her husband and two young daughters, hiking, gardening, and salsa dancing.
