Lucy Frew

Lucy Frew is a partner based in Walkers’ Cayman Islands office and heads the global Regulatory & Risk Advisory Group. She has more than 20 years’ experience as a specialist financial regulatory lawyer. As well as having advised financial institutions in private practice in international law firms in London since 2001 (prior to which she practised as a barrister), Lucy also has in-house experience as legal counsel at a global financial institution and in the Enforcement Division at the UK Financial Conduct Authority.

Lucy advises financial institutions across the international and domestic spectrum, including banks, investment managers, administrators, broker-dealers, insurers, trading venues, lenders, payment service providers and, since 2013, a wide range of fintechs, crypto and virtual asset service providers. Lucy advises on financial services regulatory issues ranging from the most complex, international and strategic to local day to day compliance and practical implementation. Lucy also advises on the regulatory aspects of mergers and acquisitions and regulatory due diligence. Lucy has significant experience of contentious regulatory matters and has assisted clients with numerous heavy weight disputes and investigations.

Lucy is a regular speaker at conferences and sits on a number of industry boards and working groups. She is a member of a number of global AIMA Working Groups, including currently AIFMD, Digital Assets and AML. She is also on the AIMA Cayman Executive Committee and is Co-Head of AIMA Cayman’s Legal & Regulatory Committee as well as the Cayman Finance Legislative and Regulatory Committee and other committees.
