Bob Madsen

Biography

Robert Madsen is a macroeconomist and geopolitical analyst who works on problems that arise at the intersection of economics, politics, and national security. He has an undergraduate degree in East Asian Languages and Civilizations from Harvard University; an M.Phil. and. D.Phil. in International Relations from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar; and a J.D., with distinction, from Stanford Law School. He has held research positions at Stanford’s Asia-Pacific Research Center, Stanford Law School, and MIT’s Center for International Studies. At Stanford, Robert has spoken at the annual Directors College over twenty times and less frequently in the university’s programs for institutional investors and the law school’s Global Quarter. He has also advised senior officials at the Federal Reserve, the Treasury Department, the State Department, and the Defense Department, and has lectured at National Defense University (NDU) as well as a number of universities.

In the private sector Robert spent 15 years at the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) in London. He was also Asia Strategist at Soros Private Funds Management and Executive Councilor at Japan’s Unison Capital as well as a consultant to Chevron and several real estate, private equity, venture capital, and hedge funds. In the last few years he has served as a member of the Advisory Board of the Rhodes Pandemic Policy Summit in London, an advisor to Deloitte’s senior management team, and a consultant to the Ford Foundation on corporate governance reform, regulatory policy, and a range of global issues.
