Gary Benton

Biography

Gary Benton is an internationally recognized US, UK and International Arbitrator and Mediator based in Palo Alto, California. He works on cutting-edge international technology disputes involving technology development, licensing, corporate investment and acquisitions, including cybersecurity, cryptocurrency and A.I. matters. He serves on the panels of the leading international arbitral institutions in the US, Europe and Asia, including the AAA-ICDR Panel.

He is the founder and a Director of the Silicon Valley Arbitration and Mediation Center (SVAMC), the nonprofit serving the global technology sector and the founder and a Director of California Arbitration (CalArb.org), California’s international arbitration and ADR group. He is also the Co- Chair of the California Lawyers Association (CLA) International Arbitration and ADR subcommittee, which originated and co-hosts California International Arbitration Week.

Mr. Benton is a Chartered Arbitrator and Fellow of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He is also a Fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators (CCA), an Academy Member of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals (NADN) and a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.

He was previously a partner with the international law firms Pillsbury Winthrop LLP and Coudert Brothers LLP and was Chief Legal Officer for a cybersecurity company serving U.S. national security interests.

In addition to his ADR practice, Mr. Benton is an Adjunct Professor at Santa Clara University where he lectures on arbitration law and practice.

He is dual qualified as a U.S. lawyer (California, New York, and Washington DC) and as an English solicitor.
