Daniel Linna

Daniel W. Linna Jr. is a Professor of Law in Residence and the Director of LegalRnD – The Center for Legal Services Innovation at Michigan State University College of Law. He teaches Quantitative Analysis for Lawyers, Litigation {Data, Theory, Practice, & Process}, Entrepreneurial Lawyering, and Lawyer Ethics and Regulation in a Technology-Driven World. Dan is also an adjunct professor at the University of Michigan Law School, where he teaches Negotiation and Legal Technology & Innovation: Legal-Service Delivery in the 21st Century.

Previously, Dan was an equity partner in the litigation department at Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn. He was a member of Honigman’s Automotive and Manufacturing; e-Discovery and Information Management; Commercial Transactions; and Social, Mobile, and Emerging Media groups. Dan joined Honigman after clerking for U.S. Court of Appeals Judge James L. Ryan.

Before law school, Dan was an information technology manager, developer, and consultant. He is the co-founder of and lead organizer for the Detroit and Chicago Legal Innovation & Technology meetup groups. He was named to the 2015 Fastcase 50 as a person who has charted a new course for the delivery of legal services. He is Vice-Chair of the Legal Analytics Committee of the ABA Business Law Section. Dan recently launched the Legal Services Innovation Index, the initial version of which measures law schools’ teaching of legal-service delivery disciplines, catalogs law firm innovations, and measures innovation in each Global 100, Am Law 200, and Canadian top-30 law firm.

Dan received his BA from the University of Michigan, received a second BA and an MA in public policy and administration from Michigan State University, and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School.
