At ARPA-IPTO in the 60s and Xerox Parc in the 70s, where many of the technologies for personal computing, the Internet, artificial intelligence, etc were developed, he helped invent personal and mobile computing, object-oriented systems and programming, the GUI, desktop media, and helping children learn powerful ideas with the aid of computing. Recognition includes the ACM’s Turing Award and Software Systems Award, the National Academy of Engineering’s Draper Prize, and the Kyoto Prize.
