Biography
Dirk Hartung is an Assistant Professor of Law at Singapore Management University’s Yong Pung How School of Law’s Centre for Digital Law and an Affiliate of CodeX – the Stanford Center for Legal Informatics. His research covers computational legal studies and the legal profession. He holds a law degree from Bucerius Law School and is pursuing a PhD at Leibniz University, Hannover. His work spans natural language processing, data science, and quantitative legal studies, with a strong emphasis on legal complexity. Dirk has written many large scale industry survey and interview studies for the Center on the Legal Profession at Bucerius Law School, including with the Boston Consulting Group and most recently the Legal Tech Monitor 2025 for the Legal Tech Association. The overarching goal of his research is to understand how we can leverage code, data, and law to navigate and improve the legal and justice system and the legal profession.
