Alejandro Salinas de León

Biography

Alejandro Salinas de León is a researcher, engineer, and lawyer working at the intersection of artificial intelligence, law, and complex systems. He holds a dual degree in Engineering Physics and Law from Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico, where he graduated with highest honors.

His work focuses on the design, evaluation, and governance of AI systems in high-stakes domains. As an NLP Research Fellow at Stanford Law School, Alejandro has led research on the reliability, fairness, and accountability of AI systems deployed in contexts such as legal decision-making. His research has been presented at venues including ACM FAccT and CELS, as well as at institutions such as Stanford, University College London, and the Max Planck Institute.

In industry, Alejandro has worked as a Data and Machine Learning Engineer at Meta, where he contributed to the optimization of large-scale recommendation systems powering products like Reels and Stories. He has also advised technology startups across Silicon Valley and Latin America on data strategy, machine learning deployment, and product development.

Beginning in fall 2026, Alejandro will pursue a PhD in Social and Engineering Systems at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where his research will focus on decision-making under uncertainty using applied mathematics and systems analysis. His broader goal is to design sociotechnical systems that are more robust, interpretable, and aligned with societal values.

Alejandro is particularly interested in advancing trustworthy AI systems that expand access to justice and public services, with a focus on Latin America and other underserved regions.
