James Yoon

James is a practice development leader of WSGR’s patent trial and litigation practice. James has 20+ years of experience as a patent and intellectual property trial lawyer, litigator and counselor. He tried numerous cases and has litigated over 200 cases in federal courts, state courts, and at the International Trade Commission.

James has an active IP counseling practice. He has advised over 50 companies on IP issues in a wide variety of transactions including strategic patent license agreements, patent purchase agreements, private equity investments, joint ventures initial public offerings and corporate mergers. As part of these transactions, James is frequently involved in IP risk assessments, valuations and modeling.

James served as a member of the committee that developed the original and the revised versions of the Model Patent Jury Instructions for the Northern District of California. He has published numerous scholarly and professional articles and is a columnist on patent law and litigation for the ABTL Report of the Northern California Chapter of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers (ABTL).

In 2013, 2014 and 2016, James was listed in the International Who’s Who of Patent Lawyers. In 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017, James was selected for inclusion in Northern California Super Lawyers in the field of Intellectual Property Litigation. In 2006, Bay Area Lawyer Magazine named James one of the “Top Lawyers in the Bay Area” for Intellectual Property law. James has served on numerous committees at WSGR including the Firm Compensation Committee, Policy, Board Nominating, Partner Nominating, Business Development, and Associate Development Committees.
