Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization and the Remaking of Constitutional Politics

Mary Ziegler will illuminate the history that helped to produce Dobbs, from the roots of the Court’s “history and tradition” test to forgotten connections between reproductive justice and battles over campaign finance and access to the vote. This history exposes the extent to which fights over abortion have always involved much more: the shape of the carceral state, the intersection of race, sexual orientation, and reproduction, and ultimately, the meaning of equality under the law and the very health of our democracy.
