Biography
Alexandra E. Stern (Ph.D. Stanford ’20) is a political historian of power in nineteenth-century America and Native America. She is currently an Assistant Professor of History at the City College of New York (CUNY), where she teaches courses on U.S. History with an emphasis on the Civil War & Reconstruction era and Indigenous history. Her current book project, Native Reconstruction: Indian Territory and the Making of the Modern American Power, uncovers how federal Indian policy and law became a critical arena in which the revolutions of Reconstruction took place. She also runs the companion site, NativeReconstruction.com, which shares new scholarly work and teaching materials on Reconstruction in Indian country by early career and established scholars.
