Administrative Checklist

During Orientation, we have given you administrative time to take care of the following tasks.


Have your photo taken for the SLS Who’s Who
Neukom 104 – UPDATE: Room 180
The ‘Who’s Who’ is the SLS photo directory of all students, faculty, and staff. We distribute hard copies to everyone within the SLS community (usually in October).

Get your photo ID
Location: Tresidder Union
If you did not get your Stanford ID in your housing packet, take a walk over to Tresidder Union to visit the ID Card Office and pick up your photo ID.

Take a law school tour
Location: Meet @ Neukom Rotunda
Orientation Volunteers will lead these 30-minute tours of the Stanford Law buildings. Meet at the Neukom Building rotunda (i.e.: the spiral staircase).

Take a tour of the Robert Crown Law Library
Location: Library Circulation Desk
Use your administrative free time to take a self-guided, 20-minute audio tour of the library. Audio tours are required for 1Ls and recommended for LLM/SPILS students. Audio tours are available during the hours below. LLM/SPILS students also have the option to sign up for a personal tour of the library, see the flyer included in your Orientation packet, or ask at the circulation desk, for details

Buy books
Location: Stanford Bookstore
Visit the bookstore to purchase your books and supplies. Your booklist is available through Axess. Be sure to pick up a lock for your locker. Orientation Volunteers (OVs) will lead groups to the bookstore at the following times, should you want an experienced hand to guide you. Meet at the registration tables at the following times:

Get assistance from IT
Location: Room 260 Crown Bldg.
We’ve included a handout in your Orientation packet with answers to the most common IT requests. The IT folks will be on hand to help you configure your laptop, connect to printers, and answer any questions you may have.

Familiarize yourself with Canvas and check for reading assignments
In addition to checking Canvas, be sure to check your mailbox in the basement for Legal Research and Writing (LRW) readings for Orientation week.

Take a Stanford campus tour
Location: Meet @ the Falcon
Orientation Volunteers will lead these 1-hour tours of campus.                                                  

Pro tip: ‘Le Fauçon’ is the sculpture by Alexander Calder on the Meyer Green side of the building. If you are interested in art, Stanford has an amazing collection. You can learn more about it online:

Take a break!
Consult SLA RedGuide to find a nearby coffee shop (Coupa is the closest) and take a breather. We have packed this week with activities, so be sure to give yourself time to decompress.
