Mikael Ekman is Deputy Tech Ambassador of Denmark posted to Silicon Valley, California. He serves as Chief Advisor to Tech Ambassador Casper Klynge and works with a global team to spearhead Denmark’s TechPlomacy initative: A deliberate diplomatic effort to elevate technology to a foreign policy priority and to engage with a global tech industry that has more influence over society than many countries.
As a career diplomat for more than 10 years, Mikael Ekman’s previous postings include Deputy Head of Mission at Denmark’s Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, as well as Brussels working on Denmark’s EU Presidency in 2012. Mikael has also held several positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Copenhagen, Denmark.
With a Masters in Political Science/International Politics from Aarhus University and University of Victoria, Mikael is preoccupied with promoting innovation and creativity as a key ingredient in effective modern diplomacy. He has also studied at Stanford University and London School of Economics. Married with one child, he lives in San Francisco, California.
