Katie Liu ’25

Biography

Katie Liu, 21, is a junior at Stanford University pursuing a dual B.A./B.S. in CS (AI) and Music (Piano Performance) as well as a coterminal M.S. in CS (HCI). 

 

A 2022 National YoungArts Foundation Winner in Classical Music, Katie has won top prizes at various international competitions, including the Arthur Fraser International Piano Competition, Claudette Sorel International Piano Competition, and most recently the MTAC State Piano Concerto and Solo Competition and Dorothy Van Waynen Piano Competition. 

 

Katie is also a four-time US Chopin Foundation full-scholarship recipient. She was one of the youngest participants at the Tenth National Chopin Competition in Miami, Florida and has taken masterclasses with renowned pianists such as Dang Thai Son, Katarzyna Popowa-Zydron, Kevin Kenner, and Garrick Ohlsson.

 

Katie loves being involved in the vibrant music and arts community here at Stanford. She’s been a part of the Stanford Symphony Orchestra, Stanford Philharmonia, and various student trios, quartets, and quintets. She has also choreographed and danced with performing arts groups such as Chang Le and the Stanford Viennese Ball Opening Committee.

 

Academically, Katie walks in the intersection between medicine, neuroscience, and human-centered AI. She’s interned on the product and engineering teams of two medical device companies over the past two summers, and was recently selected as 1 of 27 CURIS Fellows for the summer of 2024, conducting cognitive science and biocomputation research with the Stanford HCI Group. She’s also studied edtech and medtech with Stanford HAI and the Stanford Center for Interdisciplinary Brain Sciences research. 

 

Katie has always been passionate about service, entrepreneurship, and innovation. Whether it’s TA-ing for Stanford’s largest undergraduate computer science courses, bringing diverse perspectives and opportunities to fellow women-identifying students as VPO of Stanford Women in Computer Science, or cooking up new ideas with members of ASES Bootcamp and Stanford Pre-Business Association, she loves connecting with and learning from friends and mentors. She is honored to perform once more at the RQT conference this year, and is beyond excited to hear the novel ideas and explorations to be presented!
