Biography
Jin-Hee Lee is a coloratura soprano hailing from Santa Clara, California. She is a senior double majoring in Music (for Vocal Performance) and Symbolic Systems (for Human-Computer Interaction), advised by Dr. Steve Sano and Ge Wang. Next year, she will continue her studies at Stanford, pursuing a Master’s degree in computer science.
Jin-Hee studies voice with Kathryne Jennings and coaches with Steve Lightburn and Laura Dahl. Favorite works studied include “Ah, je veux vivre” from Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette and “Glitter and Be Gay” from Bernstein’s Candide. On campus, Jin-Hee sings first soprano in the Stanford Chamber Chorale, sings with a cappella group Everyday People, and serves as the Community Manager of the Stanford Light Opera Company (SLOCo). This year, she studied the role of Rosalinde in SLOCo’s production of Die Fledermaus, served as the Vocal Director in the Asian American Theater Project’s production of Next to Normal, and is currently preparing the role of Johanna in SLOCo’s production of Sweeney Todd. She also looks forward to presenting her senior recital at the end of the quarter. Last year, she performed as Susanna in the Stanford Department of Music’s abridged production of Le nozze di Figaro and vocal directed SLOCo’s production of Spelling Bee. This summer, Jin-Hee will further her vocal studies in Italy, studying the bel canto style at the Bel Canto Institute, then with Classic Lyric Arts Italy.
Beyond performing, Jin-Hee enjoys teaching and has taught introductory computer science through the CS198 program throughout the last three years. She is interested in engaging with tech in a genuinely human-centered way, and worked in product management last summer. Jin-Hee hopes to work collaboratively and stay rooted in conversation in whatever line of work she explores, and she is looking forward to continue studying human-computer interaction next year.
