Deputy Chief, Algorithmic Warfare Cross Function Team (Project Maven), ISR Operations Directorate, Warfighter Support, Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence

LtCol Larson is a United States Marine Corps reserve intelligence officer currently serving on active duty. He has served during multiple combat deployments including the initial invasion of Iraq, a counterterrorism task force, and additional service in Iraq and other theaters. He has mobilized for additional active duty service in the national capital region in support of Marine Corps intelligence and information operations efforts.

As a civilian, LtCol Larson attended the University of San Diego (B.A., 2001) and Stanford Law School (J.D., 2010). After law school, Joseph practiced at Sidley Austin, LLP. Prior to his current mobilization, Joseph served as a civilian strategist at a venture-backed software company in Silicon Valley.

In 2016, LtCol Larson mobilized for the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence (USDI). He led the initial USDI working group on artificial intelligence that presented recommendations to the Deputy Secretary of Defense who then reassigned the working group to form the Algorithmic Warfare Cross-Functional Team (AWCFT), also known as Project Maven. He has since served as the Deputy Chief of Project Maven.
