Shaking the Foundations 2022
Sbeydeh Viveros Walton Sbeydeh Viveros-Walton (she/her/ella) joined Public Advocates as its founding Director of Higher Education in 2021. PA’s Higher Education team provides legal, policy and advocacy leadership in critical issues affecting low-income and BIPOC students in the three public segments in California.
Her professional expertise is in P-16 policy and advocacy, equity-focused program development, and strategic communications. Her professional experience includes various leadership positions in the public and non-profit sectors most recently serving as Director of Government & Community Relations at 10,000 Degrees focusing on higher education policy and advocacy. She also served as Deputy Chief of Staff in the Berkeley Mayor’s Office, Communications Director for the City of San Leandro and Chief of Staff at Goodwill Industries.
She serves as Chair of San Leandro’s Library-Historical Commission, represents the East Bay on KQED’s Community Advisory Board and serves as Membership Chair for UC Berkeley’s Chicanx Latinx Alumni Association. She is a founding member and current Vice Chair of the East Bay Women’s Political Alliance. Sbeydeh recently completed her 5 year tenure as President of the Peralta Colleges Foundation, where she led the creation of a scholarship endowment for community college students in Berkeley, Oakland and Alameda.
Originally from Mexicali, Baja California Mexico, she relocated to the East Bay to pursue higher education. Sbeydeh is a proud graduate of all three public higher education institutions in California. She is a graduate of Chabot Community College and earned her BA in Rhetoric and Ethnic Studies from UC Berkeley. She also holds a Master’s in Public Administration with an emphasis in Urban Studies from San Francisco State University.
