All the World’s a Stage: Theater as Grassroots Politics

This panel will meet at the registration table and depart for a separate room. The group will depart at 3:30pm sharp. Please arrive promptly.

Metaphors equating life and politics with theater abound. But what about theater as a form of politics itself? Put down your books, turn on your right brains, and let’s rehearse for positive social change. In this interactive workshop, we will introduce the basic techniques of Forum Theater, a methodology of political theater and community activism dreamed up by Augusto Boal (a celebrated Brazilian theater director, writer and politician). The Forum breaks the fourth wall. It is rooted in the principle that we must get out of our seats and act to bring about a better world. No prior experience is necessary. We are all spect-actors! Please wear comfortable clothes.
