Biography
Jeremiah Chan is Head of Patents, Licensing and Open Source at Meta. He and his team are responsible for Meta’s worldwide patent portfolio, intellectual property transactions, and open source software, as well as industry-wide efforts to promote equity and inclusion in innovation and the IP profession.
Prior to joining Meta, Jeremiah led an international team at Google that was focused on patent portfolio strategy, and he also built the first data science team at Google dedicated to legal analytics and machine learning. Before Google, Jeremiah served as Head of IP for JDSU, a global supplier of broadband and optical solutions. Jeremiah started his career in private practice at the law firm of Fish & Neave, where he specialized in litigation, opinion work, and client counseling. He graduated from UC Berkeley with highest honors while working as a marketing assistant at the University of California Press, and he received his JD from Cornell Law School, while working for its Legal Aid Clinic.
Jeremiah serves on the advisory boards of the Institute for Intellectual Property and Social Justice, the Institute for Inclusion in the Legal Profession, and the Board of Trustees for the Pacific School of Religion. He previously chaired the board of Freedom Insight, a non-profit that combats human trafficking, and served on the USPTO’s Patent Public Advisory Committee.
