Biography

Arghya Bhattacharya is the Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer at Adalat AI, an organization committed to building AI solutions for justice systems to end judicial delays and improve access to justice.

With expertise in artificial intelligence, software development, and legal tech, Arghya oversees the creation of courtroom management systems designed to streamline judicial processes and significantly reduce delays, particularly benefiting rural and marginalized communities.

Arghya completed his education at the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H), where his academic research focused on improving AI technologies for Indian languages, contributing notably to advancements in vernacular NLP. His research has been presented at A* international conferences including ACL, CoNLL and EaCL.

He began his professional journey as the founding engineer at Enterpret, playing a crucial role in building their machine learning infrastructure.

Enterpret, now recognized for driving substantial business impact, provided him an early foundation in applied ML and startup environments.

After Enterpret, Arghya briefly worked at Equal, focusing on identity solutions for Indian citizens, before deciding to pursue entrepreneurship independently.

His entrepreneurial journey culminated when he met Utkarsh, his co-founder and a lawyer at the Supreme Court of India. After directly engaging with India’s judicial ecosystem—visiting courts, understanding user needs, and involving stakeholders—Arghya joined Utkarsh to co-found Adalat AI.

Initial impact studies indicate that courts adopting these technologies have seen a 30-50% reduction in case resolution times, varying by case stage and type. Under his leadership, Adalat AI successfully scaled to serve approximately 15% of India’s courts by December 2024, with strategic plans to expand to 50% by 2025.

Arghya’s achievements with Adalat AI have been internationally recognized, earning honors such as Fast Company’s “Next Big Things in Tech 2024” and inclusion among “4 Best International Tech Innovations of 2024.” He has also been a winner at prominent global competitions, including MIT Solve.
