Breakout 3 – Best Practices for Constructive Board-Founder Relationships

Startups need to use every resource at their disposal in order to succeed, including the knowledge and expertise of the board of directors. But a board that clashes with the founder or fails to exercise appropriate oversight can do more harm than good for the company and its constituents. This session offers practical guidance on creating and maintaining a successful board-founder relationship and explores topics such as:

  • Governance and voting structures;
  • Anticipating and responding to founder misbehavior;
  • Pairing the founder with a more experienced COO or operating team; and
  • Replacing the founder with a more experienced CEO.
