Karen King

Managing Director and Chief Legal Officer, Silver Lake

Karen King is a Managing Director and the Chief Legal Officer of Silver Lake, the global leader in large-scale technology investing, with over $45 billion in committed capital and assets under management. Silver Lake differentiates itself from generalist investment firms by devoting its full scope of talent to the singular mission of investing in the world’s leading technology companies and tech-enabled businesses.

Karen joined Silver Lake 15 years ago and has been involved in numerous investments for the firm, including but not limited to portfolio companies like Dell, Skype and Endeavor (formerly WME-IMG). She sits on the Valuation Committee for each of Silver Lake’s funds. Karen also represented Silver Lake on the Board of Serena Software.

Karen has been named as a Woman of Achievement by Legal Momentum. She was also named by PE Hub as one of “10 women smashing PE’s glass ceiling”.

Prior to joining Silver Lake, Karen worked at Simpson Thacher and Bartlett, focusing on capital markets transactions and domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions. Karen is a graduate of Harvard Law School, where she served as Vice-Chair of the 20th Reunion Committee for her class. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Public Policy Studies from Duke University. Karen serves on the Board of Advisors to Duke’s Trinity College as well as Duke’s Athletic Leadership Board. She is also a passionate supporter of the Duke Technology (DTech) Scholars program.

Karen is an Advisor to the Shatter Fund. She is the Chair of the Board for the American Leadership Forum – Silicon Valley, where she is also a Senior Fellow. In addition, she is a Trustee of Menlo School, and a Trustee of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Foundation, and she serves on the Investment Committee for Sacred Hearts Schools – Atherton. She is also on the Silicon Valley  Leadership Council of the Global Fund for Children.
