General Counsel – Roku, Inc.
Stephen Kay has more than 25 years of legal experience as both a general counsel and outside counsel. Currently, Steve is the General Counsel of Roku, Inc., a global leader in television streaming, based in Los Gatos, California. Before joining Roku in 2014, Steve was a partner at international law firm Hogan Lovells LLP, in New York and then Los Angeles, for a total of 11 years. He served as Managing Partner of the firm’s Los Angeles office from 2011 to 2013. At Roku, Steve oversees all legal matters, including corporate and commercial transactions, financings, intellectual property, compliance, government affairs and corporate governance. From 2003 to 2009, Steve was the General Counsel of Gemstar-TV Guide International, Inc., a media and technology company based in Los Angeles. At Gemstar-TV Guide, Steve played a central role in fully resolving legacy legal issues, implementing new business initiatives focused on the development and licensing of the company’s intellectual property, conducting a strategic alternatives review process and successfully completing the company sale transaction. Steve holds a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of California, Berkeley and a J.D. from Boston University School of Law.
