Sonia K. Nijjar

Biography

From her work as a first-year associate on Bear Stearns’ sale to JP Morgan in 2008 to her work as an M&A partner leading on Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter and Activision’s sale to Microsoft, Sonia’s meteoric career and extensive experience has given her unique insight valuable to companies and boards of directors. Sonia represents public and private companies on some of the largest and most complex mergers and acquisitions, securities law and corporate governance issues. In the last few years alone, Sonia has worked on transactions worth over $350 billion. She understands the pain points that affect a Board’s ability to effectively govern and has written frequently on such issues, including the articles “The Angel’s in the Details: The Importance of Well-Drafted Board Minutes”, which was published by both the Harvard Law Forum on Corporate Governance and The Corporate Governance Advisor.

Sonia received her undergraduate degree from Stanford and her law degree from Columbia Law School. She has been recognized as a Mergers and Acquisitions MVP by Law360, Dealmaker of the Year by American Lawyer and three California Lawyer Attorneys of the Year (CLAY) awards for innovative work on behalf of Livongo Health in its acquisition by Teladoc Health (2021); Intel Corporation in its acquisition of Mobileye N.V. (2018); and Broadcom Corporation in its acquisition by Avago Technologies (2016).  Sonia has also been featured in Bloomberg Law’s They’ve Got Next: The 40 Under 40 list, which honors attorneys nationwide who “represent the best of the future of the legal profession.”

In addition, she has been named as one of The Deal’s 2022 Top Women in Dealmaking, has been selected several times as a Top Women Lawyer in California by the Daily Journal and recognized by Euromoney’s Women in Business Law Expert Guide as a leading global M&A practitioner. As a co-hiring partner and a member of several key Skadden diversity initiatives, Sonia is helping drive the hiring and mentorship of the next generation to follow in the path she has helped create.
