Maria Chedid

Biography

Maria Chedid is Global Chair of the International Arbitration Practice at Arnold & Porter. Ms. Chedid regularly serves as lead counsel in high stakes commercial and investment arbitrations and is often called upon to serve as an arbitrator. She has over three decades of experience with arbitrations administered by all major arbitral institutions, including the ICC, ICDR, LCIA, SIAC, ICSID, DIAC, CPR, JAMS, PCA, and the AAA, as well as proceedings under the UNCITRAL Rules, in the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal, and in the UNCC. Her arbitration practice spans a wide range of industries and subject matter, with particular depth in technology, energy, and life sciences disputes. Ms. Chedid is Co-Chair of the ICDR’s Technology and Life Sciences Working Group, the President of the Court of Arbitration of the Abu Dhabi International Arbitration Centre, and one of two U.S. members on the ICC Court of Arbitration. She has been widely recognized for her arbitration expertise by legal publications such as Chambers Global; Chambers USA; Legal 500 US; Law360 MVP; Superlawyers; Legal Media Expert Guide; World’s Leading Technology Arbitrators; California’s Top 100 Women Lawyers of the Year; GAR Who’s Who Legal; and Lawdragon 500 Global, in which clients and peers “praise her ‘highly effective advocacy’” and describe her as “exceptionally talented,” “incisive, a superb strategist and [] unrelenting in achieving the targeted objectives.”
