Justice Patricia Guerrero
Justice Patricia Guerrero was confirmed as an Associate Justice of the California Supreme Court on March 22, 2022 following her appointment by Governor Gavin Newsom. Prior to her appointment to the California Supreme Court, she served as an Associate Justice on the Court of Appeal, Fourth Appellate District, Division One, where she was appointed in November 2017 by Governor Jerry Brown. She previously served as a judge of the San Diego Superior Court following her appointment in June 2013, and served as the supervising judge for the family law division prior to her elevation to the Court of Appeal.
The daughter of Mexican immigrants, Justice Guerrero grew up in the Imperial Valley before attending the University of California, Berkeley (1994) and Stanford Law School (1997). Justice Guerrero was an equity partner at Latham and Watkins LLP from 2007 to 2013, where she was an associate from 2003 to 2006 and from 1997 to 2002. Justice Guerrero also served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of California from 2002 to 2003.
