Administrative Checklist

We haven’t left much free time during Orientation, but if you find yourself with some open time, here are a few items to check off your to-do list.

Have your photo taken for the SLS ‘Who’s Who’ directory
Location:
Room 180
The ‘Who’s Who’ is the SLS photo directory of all students, faculty, and staff. We distribute hard copies to everyone within the SLS community (usually in October). For those of you who submitted your photo for ‘Meet Your Classmates,’ no need to do this.

Wed, Aug. 29           3:30-5:15 pm

Get your photo ID
Location: Tresidder Union
If you did not get your Stanford ID in your housing packet, take a walk over to Tresidder Union to visit the ID Card Office and pick up your photo ID.

Take a tour of the Robert Crown Law Library
Location: Library Circulation Desk
Take a self-guided, 20-minute audio tour of the library. Audio tours are required for 1Ls and recommended for LLM/SPILS students. Audio tours are available during the hours below. LLM/SPILS students also have the option to sign up for a personal tour of the library, see the flyer included in your Orientation packet, or sign up here: http://bit.ly/crownlawlibtour.

Aug. 29-Sept. 5         9:00 – 4:30 pm        Mondays through Fridays (except Labor Day, Sept. 3)

Buy books
Location: Stanford Bookstore
Visit the bookstore to purchase your books and supplies. Your booklist is available through Axess. Be sure to pick up a lock for your locker.

Get assistance from IT
Location: Room 260 Crown Bldg.
We’ve included a handout in your Orientation packet with answers to the most common IT requests. The IT folks will be on hand to help you configure your laptop, connect to printers, and answer any questions you may have.

Familiarize yourself with Canvas and check for reading assignments
In addition to checking Canvas, be sure to check your mailbox in the basement for Legal Research and Writing (LRW) readings for Orientation week.

Find your locker and mailbox
Every student is assigned a mailbox, and every incoming 1L and LLM student is assigned a locker (JSM and JSD students can request a locker by visiting the Office of Student Affairs). You can find your mailbox in the basement hallway that connects the Crown building to the classroom building. 1L lockers are located in the basement level of the classroom building, and LLM lockers are in the main locker room (behind the mailboxes).

Take a break!
Consult the 2018-2019 SLA RedGuide to find a nearby coffee shop (Coupa is the closest) and take a breather. We have packed this week with activities, so be sure to give yourself time to decompress.
