This session focuses on the relationship between civility and bias. We will use scenarios to work through how to be an ally within a juvenile justice system plagued with disparate treatment of marginalized youth. Participants will identify and discuss the role and presence of implicit bias and microaggressions, and examine how stereotypes can weaponize civility by expecting different standards of communication based on race, ethnicity, and gender.
