About

Former President and now presidential candidate Donald Trump looms large over questions about investigation, impeachment, disqualification, and prosecution of presidents. This conference takes the opportunity that Trump — and, to a lesser extent, the Biden administration — provide of near daily headlines about these issues to step back and ask broader questions about the history, structure, and application of these checks — or intrusions — into executive power. What is their historical basis? What structural role do they play in our constitutional system, both at the state and federal levels? How have these checks applied in the past and what does that tell us about how they might and how they should apply today?
