PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST

Co-sponsored by the Stanford Center for Racial Justice, Stanford Law and Policy Lab, and Haas Center for Public Service

WHEN September 5-6
WHEREStanford Law School

The Private Universities in the Public Interest convening will explore how private colleges and universities might respond to diminished trust in higher education and address their role in widening inequality and political polarization. Our goal is to develop a shared narrative to encourage collective action among these institutions to revise and expand their service missions. Over the two-day assembly, participants will critically reconsider the role of private colleges and universities in contemporary society in the context of these institutions’ rich legacy of civic contribution. The group will brainstorm new, ambitious, and tractable ways that private universities might better leverage their capacity for the benefit of the nation as a whole.
