Biography
Andrew J. Perrin is SNF Agora Professor and Chair of Sociology at Johns Hopkins University. His research focuses on the cultural and communicative dimensions of democratic life, including deliberation, debate, public opinion, and education. He is working on several studies of students’ experiences with debate and free speech as well as a book on failures of public argument. He led redesign of the general education curriculum at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, which focused on intellectual habits of mind for civic, personal, and market outcomes, and is currently working on civic-education efforts at Johns Hopkins and beyond.
