Brett Maben Hammon

Biography

Brett Maben Hammon is a lifelong resident of the Bay Area.  Brett graduated from Stanford in 2008 with a B.A. in Political Science and an emphasis on Comparative Studies in Race & Ethnicity.  He deferred entry to the U.C. Berkeley School of Law for a year to perform in a handful of professional musical theater productions in the Bay Area.  He then graduated from Berkeley with a J.D. in 2012.

Brett worked for 6 years at WilmerHale LLP in Palo Alto doing Intellectual Property litigation.  While at WilmerHale, Brett helped pioneer a pro bono partnership with the Stanford Three Strikes Project to draft petitions for resentencing under the then-new Prop 36.  In 2017, Brett was honored to receive the firm’s Reginald Heber Smith Award for Community Service for his extensive pro bono work.

Since 2018, Brett has worked as a Deputy Public Defender in Santa Clara County. Brett has conducted several misdemeanor and felony jury trials, including the first jury trial in Santa Clara County to begin following the Covid Pandemic shutdown. Brett currently works in the Research Unit.
