Jama Cantrell is an Assistant General Counsel in Microsoft’s Corporate, External and Legal Affairs organization. Jama currently manages a legal team supporting the engineering groups that develop and operate some of Microsoft’s key consumer and enterprise productivity applications and services, including Office, Office Online and Skype for Business. Focusing on developing and executing complex legal and policy strategies for emerging and globally developed technology businesses, Jama currently spends a considerable amount of her time on privacy and data handling practices in preparation for the European Union’s sweeping new privacy law, the General Data Protection Regulation. Jama’s experiences include product development counseling, partnering with business development teams in the formation of strategic collaboration, alliance, co-development and licensing relationships, acquisitions, intellectual property protection and planning and domestic and international regulatory compliance including privacy, security, competition and accessibility. With over 17 years at Microsoft, Jama has supported a broad range of engineering, business development and marketing teams from Office productivity services and applications to Microsoft’s Xbox and consumer entertainment products business.
