Roland Scharrer

Group Chief Data & Emerging Technology Officer, AXA

Roland Scharrer is currently Group Chief Emerging Technology & Data Officer at AXA. In his role he is responsible for leveraging data and emerging technologies at scale, focusing on technologies which have the potential to disrupt the current insurance business model and create opportunities to shape future businesses. Roland joined AXA Germany in 2016 as Head of Data Strategy and Analytics. He then assumed a position at Group level in 2018 as Group CTIO/CDO in charge of data and technology innovation teams in Paris, Lausanne, Barcelona, Singapore and San Francisco.

Before that, Roland worked in IT, data science and strategy consulting with a special focus on Automotive and Financial Service industries and worked from Germany to Spain and UK, to the US and India. His last position before joining AXA was Chief Data Scientist for Capgemini Consulting.

He studied computer science, statistics, economics and design thinking among others at ESADE Business School in Barcelona and HPI School of Design Thinking in Berlin and gained M.Sc. degrees in Computer Engineering and Business Information Systems and an Executive Master in Business Administration.

When he is not working on imagining the future of insurance, you may find Roland tending his Bonsai tree or improving his cooking skills.
