Fred T. Goldberg, Jr.

Fred Goldberg first joined Skadden, Arps as a tax partner in its DC office in 1986, following two years as IRS Chief Counsel.  From 1989 until 1992 he served as IRS Commissioner and during 1992 served as Treasury Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy, returning to Skadden in December of 1992.  Mr. Goldberg advises clients on novel tax compliance and enforcement matters; on matters involving regulatory and administrative guidance; and corporate governance issues.  He has directed management reviews on behalf of senior executives and boards of directors of various companies.  On a selective basis Mr. Goldberg also consults on legislative matters.  Along with his tax practice, he is co-chair (emeritus) of the firm’s global Diversity and Inclusion Committee and co-chair of the firm’s global Pro Bono Committee.

Mr. Goldberg serves on a number of non-profit boards, including as a member of Children’s National Health System board and its audit and enterprise risk committees; a member of the board of Commonwealth (f/k/a Doorways-to-Dreams); board chair, Future Scholars Fund; and board member, New York City Kids RISE.  He and his wife Wendy have five adult children and four grandchildren (with more on the way).
