Alan MayMay is a highly accomplished, versatile corporate executive with deep experience in driving business strategy through organizational transformation, world class talent development and performance management. Alan’s breadth of expertise across HR, Strategic Planning and Operations roles includes building high performance organizations, facilitating large-scale corporate restructuring, driving productivity through digitization and the redefinition of work, establishing inclusive, winning corporate cultures, and orchestrating acquisitions and divestitures across multiple industries.
As Executive Vice President at Hewlett Packard Enterprise (NYSE: HPE), a $28 billion global technology firm, Alan directs all aspects of the firm’s HR policy and practice, supporting a workforce of more than 60,000 employees across 110 countries. He has worldwide responsibility for the company’s strategic human resources activities, including workforce development and organizational effectiveness, total rewards, staffing and retention, global inclusion and diversity, and HR processes and information management.
On Alan’s watch, HPE has transformed from a high technology hardware supplier into an as a service provider of hybrid cloud solutions, consistently exceeding EPS guidance while receiving accolades in corporate governance, ESG, and corporate culture, including ranking as a Fortune 100 Best Places to Work for the last two years. He is a strategic partner to the CEO and board,
with leadership ranging from succession planning, executive compensation and corporate restructuring to director search, corporate governance, and strategy formulation and execution. Over eight years he has completed more than thirty acquisitions and guided two multi-billion-dollar spin-offs into publicly traded firms.
At HPE, Alan serves as management principal to both the Human Resources and Compensation and Nomination, Governance and Social Responsibility Committees of the HPE Board. He attends all HPE Board meetings with frequent participation at both full Board sessions as well as at the Audit Committee. Alan serves as a Board member for HPE Financial Services (HPEFS), a captive leasing firm with over $10 billion in assets; he is also Chair of the Human Resources and Compensation Committee and on the Audit Committee for HPEFS.
Alan previously worked at Boeing (NYSE: BA), where he most recently was Vice President, Human Resources for the company’s Commercial Airplanes division. At Boeing, he successfully shifted the century-old company culture toward a performance mindset, restructured two large-scale labor agreements and accelerated the development of talent in response to an evolving market. Earlier in his Boeing tenure, he headed HR for Boeing’s Defense and Space sector and held a corporate-wide role leading Compensation, Benefits and Strategy. Prior to joining Boeing, he was Chief Talent and Human Resources Officer for Cerberus Capital Management, a large private-equity firm based in New York. He previously held senior leadership roles in HR and business integration during a 15-year tenure at PepsiCo (NYSE: PEP). Alan started his professional career at The Caterpillar Tractor Company (NYSE: CAT).
His civic leadership roles include serving on the Board of Governors, Chair of the HRC and member of the Executive Committee for the San Francisco Symphony as well as prior trustee and leadership roles at the American Foundation for the Blind, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Ravinia Festival and Casa Central. He is a member of the Metropolitan Club of New York City.
Alan received both his B.A. in Economics and his M.A. in Labor and Industrial Relations from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is an ardent hiker having just completed the Haute Route in Switzerland.
