Managing Director and Head of Los Angeles Office, H/Advisors Abernathy
Matt Reid utilizes deep experience in crisis management, financial and corporate communications and public affairs to provide strategic counsel to clients facing “bet-the- company” opportunities and threats. He leads the H/Advisors Abernathy’s Los Angeles office and its cybersecurity and litigation practice areas.
Matt’s expertise includes managing major corporate crises, complex litigation matters, policy and regulatory challenges, financial transactions and issues, and high-profile cybersecurity and ransomware attacks. His recent experience includes: providing corporate communications and public affairs counsel to one of the world’s largest technology companies; providing transaction communications and crisis support for a major real estate investment trust; providing transaction communications counsel in a major health technology merger; leading communications and issues management efforts on behalf of one of the nation’s largest health systems; providing pro-bono litigation communications support for Jarvis Masters, an innocent man on San Quentin’s death row; providing litigation communications counsel for a well-known family foundation, a major Northern California public agency, a global technology company and a leading blockchain company, among others; and providing incident response support and cybersecurity planning for multiple companies and organizations, including a leading chemical manufacturer, a third-party health administrator, a major pharmaceutical company, and an industrial manufacturer, among others.
Prior to joining Abernathy, Matt served as Managing Director and co-head of the Los Angeles office of Sard Verbinnen & Co. Previously, he was Senior Vice President, External Affairs for BSA | The Software Alliance, the leading global trade association for the software industry, where he oversaw global communications and government relations. He has held senior corporate communications and public affairs roles at several leading global PR firms and started his career working on high profile political campaigns.
Matt serves as a member of the Board of Governors of the Institute for Corporate Counsel, a nonprofit organization that operates in collaboration with USC Gould School of Law and the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Business Law Section. In addition, since 2015, Matt has supported Alzheimer’s Los Angeles, Southern California’s leading Alzheimer’s support organization, in various capacities, including as Board Member, Board Chair, and as a member of the Board Marketing Committee. He is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno with a degree in English Literature.
