Joe Hurd

Biography

Joe Hurd is a public company director, AI-governance adviser, and a former technology operator at Facebook and AOL/Time Warner. He currently sits on three boards: Lloyd’s of London (Chair, Remuneration), Trustpilot Group plc (Chair, Trust & Transparency), and Hays plc (Chair, Sustainability). His fellow directors have appointed him to seven board subcommittees, including six CEO and Chair selection subcommittees, and he is Lloyd’s first-ever board-level Culture Champion.

As a Partner at Alpha, a leadership organization focused on AI governance in the corporate boardroom, he advises public company boards on AI oversight and risk, and writes and speaks frequently for Directors & Boards, Diligent, Nasdaq, and NACD on how boards govern through technological disruption and geopolitical volatility. Earlier in his career, he served as a political appointee in the Obama Administration’s Commerce Department, where he authored the first-ever Report to the President on the National Export Initiative.

Joe sits on the Nasdaq Center for Board Excellence Advisory Council; the 50/50 Women on Boards Selection Committee; and is a Life Member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School, a master’s from Columbia University, and an A.B. from Harvard College. He lives in Los Altos, California.
