Judy Perry Martinez

Judy Perry Martinez is Of Counsel with Simon, Peragine, Smith & Redfearn, LLP in New Orleans. She previously served as Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer of Northrop Grumman Corporation. Prior to joining Northrop in 2003, she was a commercial litigator at Simon, Peragine, for 21 years. In, 2015 Judy departed Northrop to become a Fellow at the Advanced Leadership Initiative at Harvard, where she spent a year in residence before returning to New Orleans to pursue a career in public service. She currently serves on the board of the Innocence Project New Orleans, and has served on the boards of the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities and Planned Parenthood of New Orleans, and is a member of Impact 100.

From 2014-2016, Judy served as chair of the ABA Presidential Commission on the Future of Legal Services and currently serves as special advisor to the newly established ABA Center for Innovation. She also is a member of the ABA Task Force on Building Public Trust in the American Justice System. In 2011, she was appointed chair of the ABA Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary, which evaluates all perspective nominees to the federal bench. Judy has served as the ABA lead representative to the United Nations and as a member of the ABA Board of Governors and its executive committee. She previously has served as chair of the 174,000 member ABA Young Lawyers Division, a member of the ABA Commission on Women in the Profession, and chair of the ABA Commission on Domestic Violence. She has been a member of the ABA House of Delegates since 1991. Judy has served as a member of the ABA Task Force on Attorney Client Privilege, the Council of the ABA Center for Racial and Ethnic Diversity,and the ABA’s World Justice Project Committee. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, a member of the American Law Institute, and a member of the board of directors of the American Bar Foundation.

Working with other leaders of the Louisiana bar, Judy undertook an effort to establish the New Orleans Pro Bono Project and served as its first chair in the early 1980’s. She served as chair of the New Orleans Bar Association Young Lawyers Section. Judy chaired the Louisiana State Bar Association Committee on Minority Involvement in its inaugural year, 1989, and chaired the LSBA Professionalism and Quality of Life Committee.

Judy has received the Sam Dalton Capital Defense Advocacy Award from the Louisiana Association of Criminal Defense Counsel in 1997, the Michelle Pitard Wynne Professionalism Award from the Association of Women Attorneys in 1998, and the Alliance for Justice Award in 1999 from the National Gay and Lesbian Law Association. She was named The Outstanding Young Lawyer in the State of Louisiana in 1990, and in April 2002, the Louisiana Bar Foundation’s 2001 Distinguished Attorney. On two occasions, she has received the LSBA President’s Award. In August 2012, the Federal Bar Association, New Orleans chapter, presented Judy with its Camille Gravel Public Service Award. Judy graduated from Tulane University Law School, with honors, in 1982, and is a former instructor of trial advocacy.
