Vivian I. Neptune Rivera

Dean Vivian I. Neptune is the twelfth Dean of the University of Puerto Rico School of Law and the first woman to occupy that position in the 100 years of the institution’s foundation. She holds a Master of Laws (LLM) from Columbia University School of Law in New York, Juris Doctor Magna Cum Laude, and a Bachelors Degree Magna Cum Laude in Social Science with a major in Economics from University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. During her deanship, since 2011, she has established six new legal aid clinics, expanded the Pro Bono and LLM programs and designed the first LLM Online program in the Adversarial Oral System. She teaches Evidence, Intersection of Race, Gender and the Law and Electronic Evidence.

Dean Neptune is recognized as an expert on electronic evidence and is a frequent guest speaker and panelist on evidence, pro bono work and access to justice. In addition, she published the first book on Electronic Evidence in Puerto Rico that analyzes authentication and admissibility under the rules of evidence. She has other publications in local and international legal journals on evidence, electronic evidence, confrontation clause, pro bono work by law firms, and the digital divide and access to justice.

On January 2019, she received the Deborah Rhode Award in Pro Bono and Public Interest granted by the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) in recognition of her commitment to serving the communities and people with the greatest needs in Puerto Rico by promoting the expansion of the Pro Bono program and the Legal Aid Clinics. On May 2015, he received the Academic Excellence Award granted by the Puerto Rico Bar Association of New York.
