Joe Allanson, Executive Vice President, Finance ESG, Salesforce

Joe Allanson joined salesforce in August 2003, which was four years after salesforce was founded in 1999. He is the company’s finance executive responsible for its ESG reporting practices and the integration of ESG and finance within the organization. This executive role was added in September 2021. Prior to that, he served as their Chief Accounting Officer and Corporate Controller from July 2011 and as the company’s Corporate Controller from July 2007 to July 2011.

In the November 1, 2017 issue of Fortune Magazine, Marc Benioff, Chairman and CEO of salesforce, in reflecting on salesforce’s accomplishments referred to Joe as “the cloud industry’s unsung hero for working with the accounting standards boards to allow for the deferred recognition of sales commissions.”

In 2018, Zuora Software named Joe as Chief Accounting Officer of the Year for his contributions towards the final standard on Revenue Recognition.

Prior to joining salesforce in 2003, Joe spent 4 years at Autodesk and 3 years at Chiron Corporation. He also spent 11 years at Arthur Andersen LLP in their San Francisco audit and business advisory services group.

He serves on the board of directors of the Value Reporting Foundation. He is also a large advocate of education and community service. He serves on the:

  • Board of Trustees at the University of San Francisco,
  • Chair of the Advisory Board of the University of Southern California’s Leventhal School of Accounting,
  • Member of the Advisory Board of Santa Clara University’s School of Accounting, and
  • Board of Trustees (emeritus) at St. Ignatius College Preparatory in San Francisco
