Khalid A. Al-Kofahi

Vice President of Research and Development, Thomson Reuters

Khalid leads corporate R&D at Thomson Reuters as well as the Center for AI and Cognitive Computing, also at Thomson Reuters. In this role, he is responsible for defining Thomson Reuters R&D strategy and for partnering with the business to identify and realize product opportunities that could be enabled by AI and machine learning. In his 20+ years tenure at Thomson Reuters, both as an individual contributor and as head of R&D, Khalid designed, contributed to and led the development of dozens of market-leading products for the Legal, Regulatory, Tax, Accounting, Financial, Risk as well as the News Industry, globally.

Khalid is a technology executive with a track record building and scaling high performance teams. He is a founding member of Thomson Reuters’ R&D and led the expansion of the R&D organization globally with offices in USA, Canada and the UK. He proposed, secured funding for and started the Center for AI and Cognitive Computing. Khalid is a thought leader and a frequent speaker on AI and ML focusing on how they are changing how knowledge work gets done.

Thomson Reuters R&D and the Center for AI and Cognitive Computing perform applied computer science research, develop custom algorithms and build solutions for specific products, for capabilities in anticipation of future business needs, and for prototypes to demonstrate the art of the possible. Research areas include natural language processing, information retrieval, question answering, machine learning, recommender systems, knowledge representation, reasoning, language generation, summarization, text analytics and quantitative finance.
