Technology and Applications of Computable Contracts in Insurance and Finance

On Tuesday and Wednesday April 9 and 10, 2024, CodeX – The Stanford Center for Legal Informatics, will hold a pair of workshops on the use of Computable Contracts in Insurance and Finance.

This workshop will focus on the technical aspects of computable contracts. It will provide an opportunity for academic researchers and developers directly engaged in the building of computable contracts to share and discuss theory, methods, platforms, data, interoperability with LLMs, and other technically-linked aspects of applications. The discussions will also include metrics for evaluating our success and methods for using LLMs productively in combination with the rules-based approaches that have traditionally been central to computational law research. Presentations will be geared towards knowledge sharing and lessons learned from implementation.

AGENDA
12:15 – 12:30 pm
Introductory Remarks
12:30 – 3:00 pm Technical Demos: State of the Art
3:00 – 3:15 pm Break
3:15 – 4:15 pm Breakthrough 1: Bridging LLMs with Insurance Contracting
Breakthrough 2: Programs and Semantics: Declarative vs. Imperative Approaches to Codifying Contracts
Breakthrough 3: Domain and Data: Specific Languages and Standardization
4:15 – 5:00 pm Share Outs and Summarizing Proceedings

* Sessions are subject to change. Please check back for regular updates and additional program details.

During this day we will discuss considerations for near-term use of computable contracts and their related ecosystem of technologies (e.g. LLMs and foundation models) with a focus on deployment in finance and insurance, including demonstrations, expert panels, and interactive sessions. We will open with a keynote and showcase other dynamic presentations, offering both broad coverage of the subject and deeper dives into practical implementation. The presentations will be geared toward stimulating discussion of the opportunities for implementation of computable contracts in the insurance and finance industries, removal of obstacles to adoption, and pathways to success!
