Lillie Stephens, JD ’96, is Associate General Counsel, Commercial at Meta Platforms, Inc. (fka Facebook, Inc.), where she leads the Global Core Ads Team on ad sales programs with Meta’s key advertising partners. Lillie’s scope has been expanding over the past year to include Metaverse Immersive Learning Initiatives. In addition, Lillie is Co-Chair of APIs@Legal, a professional development and advocacy group for Asian and Pacific Islanders in the Meta Legal Department. She also serves as Community Lead of Racial Justice Task Force, a team that spearheads projects that allow Meta Legal team members to take sustained, meaningful action against racial and social injustice.
Lillie co-founded Helios School, a K-8 independent, not-for-profit school that sits on a four-acre campus in Sunnyvale, California. Helios’ mission is to provide engaging and imaginative education that meets the unique intellectual, social and emotional needs of gifted students and their families and to empower authenticity through respect for self and others. Helios serves over 140 students, is CAIS accredited and is celebrating its 15th anniversary this May. Lillie has served continuously on the school’s Board of Trustees and has served as Chair of the Board and Chair of the Audit Committee during her tenure.
At age 29, Lillie was featured on the cover of The American Lawyer as “one of the youngest general counsels of any company traded on the Nasdaq,” in her role as General Counsel and Vice President of Business Affairs for bebe stores, inc., a women’s fashion retailer. Lillie served as bebe’s General Counsel immediately following its IPO, which was a tremendous growth period in the company’s history. During this period, bebe increased its number of stores by over 40%, opened in international markets through licensing partnerships, launched its online store, and expanded its product offering via wholesale licensing and distribution to top tier boutiques and department stores. Prior to joining bebe, Lillie was a corporate and securities attorney at Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich (now DLA Piper LLP).
Lillie earned a J.D. from Stanford Law School and was the first Filipino-American graduate of the school. Prior to attending Stanford, she earned a B.A. in social psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Lillie lives in Palo Alto with her husband Thaddeus, JD ’96, and their daughter, Emerson-Jane, a sophomore at Palo Alto High School. Their son Atticus is a first-year student at the University of Edinburgh in their theoretical physics program.
